The average height of an adult wolf can range from 33 to 42 inches. Generally, the larger subspecies tend to be larger with the arctic wolf measuring an average of 42 inches and weighing around 65 pounds while the red wolf is smaller at 33 inches and weighs an average of 55 pounds. The lighter build of the red wolf is most likely due to its preference for a habitat consisting of dense forests, marshes, and swamplands as opposed to open fields or tundra like the arctic wolf.
Arctic wolves are slightly shorter on average than Red Wolves who are smaller than Grey Wolves. Depending on the subspecies, weights for adult male wolves range from 55-120 lbs. The largest subspecies being the Gray Wolf which is found throughout North America and Eurasia and can weigh as much as 180 lbs when fully grown. Smallest subspecies being the Red Wolf which only grows to about 55 lbs when fully mature.
